The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse

Been listening to this Duke Ellington album lately, The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse, which Derek gave me way back, and I am really smitten. From the introduction, in his  sophisticated but deeply cool manner, through to the end, this is a great record.

The band is really swinging and the compositions are great. Truth be known, though, and in case it wasn’t already glaringly evident,  I don’t have much of a vocabulary for talking about Jazz – and there’s not a lot written about this album I can point you to online.

Leave it for now at this: this album is incredible and tasty and you should check it out. Here’s two songs for you to hear yourself; the rest of the album is this cool. I love Duke Ellington, and hope to someday be able to say in an articulate manner Why and How. Til then…
