Speed Racer: Vic Chesnutt (film)

Peter Sillen made this film about Vic Chesnutt right after he’d finished West of Rome, about 20 years ago.  I just (as in, just now, between sentences) checked to get the credits right, and it looks like he’s about to release it on DVD – see this link. I got my copy from eBay about ten years ago, and just now transfered it from VHS to the computer (excuse the crap edit!), so I thought I’d share it.

I also just noticed that Jem Cohen worked on the film – he’s the filmmaker who produced the Constellation records Chesnutt recorded over the last couple years. I wonder if this is how they met?

Anyway, here it is. If Mr. Sillen wants the post removed, I will – I don’t want to interfere with the DVD release. In the meantime, it’s a great film and might bring some people some happy. Dig it.

Just heard from Mr. Sillen – he’s releasing the film on DVD soon with an hour of extra footage. As per his request, I’m removing the video. See his website for ordering info.

I got mine on ebay, too, and I’m really glad to have it on the computer since my vcr died a couple of years ago. It’s a wonderful movie, though it makes me almost as sad as it does happy. I hope the post I saw from Peter Sillen that he had extra footage and did hope to have it out on dvd soon is true.

I’m hoping to get the DVD with 1 hr of additional footage out soon.
I’d appreciate if you would take this down. Thanks, Pete
