Bad Name, Good Record

Bedroom music again. I liked the flatsound album a lot (see this) and this sounds similar to me. I don’t mean “lo-fi” or “like it was recorded in a bedroom”, either. I mean both albums sound and feel solitary and personal; both are fully realized pictures of somebody playing and writing and recording sitting on a bed, alone in a house.

This one’s by A Book About Elephants, a record called Two Bit Tuck. I think both names are mildly awful, but that’s just me. The songs are confessional and melancholic, but well-written and unsentimental, sort of Joni Mitchell through Beck and Guided By Voices. Her voice is lived-in and expressive, and when the melody is sweet, so is the singing. Check it out below, and the whole record at bandcamp.
